My power controller is actually a Hipotronics model 100
HVT high voltage dielectric test set controll box. My dad
used it to test bucket trucks when the high voltage
transformer started to leak oil. They bought a whole new test
set and he brought the controll box home thinking he may have
a use for it someday. That was years ago, and now it is
supplying power to my high voltage experiments. It is based
off what I think is a 5 kVA, 0 - 140V variac (the original
transformer was 50KV/100KV, 100mA/50mA). Besides the variac,
the mains are breakered through two 50A breakers, one hot and
one neutral. There is an overload breaker, and a safety
interlock. The contactor can only be activated when the
variac is at zero volts via a micro-switch mounted on the
variac. There are two panel meters. One is a three-range
100KV voltage meter and the other is a three range 100mA
meter. I only have the probe for the volt meter
unfortunately. It is a capacitavely coupled type with BNC
connectors.
